Not sure if this is of any interest, certainly for a good cause. See the document for more details.batonrelayletter
You may be aware of events in Manchester in September 2012 where two unarmed Police Officers where shot following a routine burglary call. Following this awful event, Bryn Hughes, the father of PC Nicola Hughes, one of the victims of the shooting, set up the charity in her name.
The aims of our charity, the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund, are to provide learning opportunities and pre-employment skills in the form of support through grants or services to children (under 21) who have suffered a tragic loss of a close family member through a violent crime such as murder or manslaughter.
Talking about the charity Bryn says “We have seen firsthand the devastating effect this has on people and how we as adults cope in the aftermath, is different to how children cope.
We would like to help them to try and rebuild their lives and look towards the future. To be able to stand on their own feet by continuing with education, where financial situations may have changed, or start that course which will enable them to gain employment”
As part of the ongoing activities to build support, resources and awareness, a team of runners is being assembled from across the country to attempt a world record attempt; the first continuous baton relay race from John ‘o’Groats to Lands End.
This is where your running club can help support! We are looking for runners, supporters, volunteers and fund raisers to make this event a success. Could you and your club help out?
Further details will be published in due course on the charity website http://www.pcnicolahughesmemorialfund.co.uk/ but we are reaching out now to raise awareness and identify runners to take part.
Could you please circulate this within your running club and if you would like any further information please get in touch at: info.pcnicolasfund.co.uk
