Fell Update September 2013

Race updates

Again lots of good performances in local races, the men’s team came 3rd and 8th with the women 5th at Guisborough Grunt.  At Inclined to Madness the men’s team won (Brian Saysell, Garteth Wilson and Jonathan Skidmore) and followed this up with 2nd at Roseberry Toping where the women went one better to take first (Georgie Hill, Di Jobson and Sharon Gayter).  The men came 4th at the Viking Chase

On an individual level Brian Saysell continues to impress with 4 more top 10 places and age category wins, whereas Georgie, Di and Sharon continue to perform consistently well.

If anyone is doing races further afield please tell us about it, maybe do a race report?

Fell Championship Latest

With 16 out of the 19 counting races completed things are beginning to get closer.  I didn’t notice any NYMAC finishers in the Hardmoors 60, please let me know if I’ve missed you.  Also please note that the Pathfinder results aren’t up yet so these aren’t included.  The current top 10 looks like this:

1. Sharon Gayter 112 (from 6 races)

2. Di Jobson  107 (from 6 races)

3. Brian Saysell  104 (from 6 races)

4. Eddie Meehan 91 (from 5 races)

5. Nick Simmons 85 (from 6 races)

6. Georgie Hill   84 (from 5 races)

7. Mark Edwards 77 (from 5 races)

8. Caroline Graham 61 (from 4 races)

9. William Gayter 55 (from 4 races)

10. Julian Barwick 54 (from 3 races)

Remember it’s calculated on performances in age category, 20 for a win, 19 for second and so on and it’s your best 6 results to count.  The last 3 counters are:  Guisborough 33 Tops, Clay Bank West and Eskdale Eureka.

Fell Manager

I’ve been doing this role now for about a year and seem to have been injured for most of it.  Having run regularly on the local scene for about 5 years it is now 8 months since I completed a race and it’s looking like fell running, in racing terms at least, might be a thing of the past for me.  Some of you may well ask ‘when did you start!?’  Obviously this is not an ideal state of affairs as I would have liked to be in there competing and encouraging members to give a fell race a try, maybe meeting new runners at races and so on.  If things are no better come the AGM next year I will be looking to stand down.

Thanks

Paul Christon
