Fell Update May 2013
Much to report on this month, unfortunately for me I haven’t been part of it due to a series of niggling injuries. However I do seem to be on the mend so:
Monday Evening Fell Runs:
20/5 Meet at Pinchinthorpe Visitors Centre
27/5 Meet at Guisborough Rugby Club
3/6 Meet outside the Tourist Information kiosk at the car park at Great Ayton
Meeting time will be 6.30 and the runs will be easy paced and last for about an hour, so probably around 6 miles. They are aimed at those trying fell for the first time but anyone welcome. I’ll review after the May dates and if there’s enough interest I’ll look to continue them over the summer.
Race updates
3 Peaks
4 NYMAC runners completed the course, which is a feat in itself within the time limits at the check points.
Gary (old man) Thoms got round in an impressive 4.14.13, Gary Burnip 4.37.28, Sam Healy 4.40.53 and Di Jobson 5.08.04. Well done all! It’s a great event, a significant step up from the local fell races but the route finding is pretty straightforward so for those who regularly do the local fell races and are looking for a new challenge it might be worth thinking about for next year.
Guisborough Moors
First NYMAC runner home was road man Wayne Boutell (what’s happening!) in 26th in 1.40.26. Well done Wayne. Bryan Saysell was 34th in 1.43.44, 63rd was Nick Simmons 1.54.34 and Andrew Dobson in 83rd completed the men’s A Team in 2.01.01 to finish 6th. Christopher Wright 91st, Eddie Meehan 95th, David Allison 110th and Mark Edwards 119th completed the B Team who finished 11th A great performace by the women who finished 3rd with Di Jobson 73rd in 1.58.06, Caroline Graham 80th and Sharon Gayter in 93rd
Fox and Hounds
The final counter in the local Winter Series and our top runner on the day was Bryan Saysell in 16th backed up by Mark Edwards in 46th, Paul Lyons in 79th and David Murphy in 88th he led NYMAC to 7th in the team competition. Viv Murphy was our sole female runner finishing in 87th.
Winter Series Final Positions
Our top overall male runner was Brendan Anglim who performed solidly over the winter to take 18th and 5th in his category. Caroline Graham impressed with 12th overall in the ladies competition and 4th in the Open Female category. Other top 10 performers were: Julian Barwick 2nd in M50, Mark Edwards and Paul Lyons who were 5th and 10th respectively in the M55, Mike Shaw and Eddie Meehan who were 4th and 9th in the M60, Doug Welsh and Richard Clarke who were 6th and 7th on the M65, Di Jobson who was 6th in the F40 and Sharon Gayter who was 8th in the F45.
In the overall team competitions the men’s A team were 3rd and the B team were 12th with the women’s team taking 6th.
Fell Championship Latest
Guisborough Moors and the Fox and Hounds Chase were both counters for the club fell championship. Having input all the results according to age category performance we now have 26 men and 7 women registering at least one qualifying run. It’s 20 points for a category win, 19 for second, 18 for third and so on. Mark Edwards leads the men with 42 points from 3 qualifying runs with Eddie Meehan second on 35 from 2 and Bryan Saysell on 29 from 2. 3 women have recorded 2 qualifying runs with Di Jobson (34) leading Caroline Graham (29) with Viv Murphy in 3rd (26). Still plenty of time with 14 qualifying races left over the year.
